University of Surrey - Starlink Speedtest

Do you have “Dishy”? Are interested in measuring your Starlink Internet performance and comparing it with traditional Internet Service Providers or with others using Starlink in your city or country? Then read on:

As part of a research project at the University of Surrey, UK, we are conducting a study to assess and evaluate the performance of SpaceX’s Starlink broadband service compared to other conventional broadband services such as fibre and wireless (cellular).

To participate in our study, download the Google Chrome Extension developed by us to evaluate and compare your Starlink Internet performance anywhere at any time. Note that the extension shares anonymous data about your broadband speed to help our study. However, the extension and much of its functionality are freely available for use even if you do not share your data. [To compare your performance with others, and present you the results, we will need access to your data; all other functionalities can be used without sharing any data with us, although we would really appreciate it if you allow us to use your data in our (purely academic and completely non-commercial) research.]

For more details, please read the Participant Information Sheet on our webpage. The study has been designed in accordance with advice from our university ethics committee (the equivalent of the Institutional Review Board or IRB in the USA).
